Ferndapple
It had been two moons so far that Ferndapple had been training young Springpaw, having felt her apprentice was making quite the progress in her training. But with training usually came assessments to keep track of how well an apprentice was doing and to truly see if they were growing. She felt it was necessary to do so that day since it was nice out with the sun shining down on them as they trekked through the Willow Forest, the side of the territory Ferndapple felt would be perfect to do their first test. It was a little while before sun-high so she felt they had plenty of time to test Springpaw's abilities. Once she felt they were a good few yards into the black willows, the older she-cat finally motioned with her tail for her apprentice to stop before facing her. " Springpaw, I have watched you grow quickly these last two moons and I am quite proud with your progress. Because of that, I feel its time I gave you your first assessment." Ferndapple told her with a look of pride in her green eyes, sitting back on her haunches with her tail curled around her paws. " This time we'll make this a simple hunting assessment. I know hunting seems to be your strong point therefore I feel this will be your first test. And maybe later if you feel up to it we can do some combat training." She explained to her, her tone going serious for a moment. Unwinding her tail, she swayed her tail in one fluid motion as she spoke, " You can collect any prey you can find within the Willow Forest. You may even fish from the Oasis if you feel like it. I will be observing you from afar where you cannot see, this will be a test of your overall skill from your posture to your tracking and alertness. I wish you luck!" She told her as she stood, but waited for Springpaw to add something or ask any questions. Tags:Brightstar Notes: I felt like an assessment thread might be fun

Springpaw
Springpaw followed her mentor anxiously, wondering what this could possibly be about. She hadn't done something wrong, had she? But when they halted, all of her fears were dispelled. Her eyes widened as her mentor told her why they were here. "Really? You think I'm ready? Really?" She squeaked bouncing on her paws joyfully. She couldn't believe Ferndapple thought she was ready for this.
"When do we start? Can I start now? Is there a time limit? Will you watch me the whole time?" She asked rapidly her tail swishing from side to side. Springpaw was eager to get started. Hunting was definitely her specialty and she was desperate to prove herself.

Ferndapple
Amusement flashed in Ferndapple's eyes and her whiskers twitched slightly as her apprentice seemed shocked by this news. " Yes, I felt it was a good idea to have a first assessment. Your final one is still a few moons away but it never hurts to ensure you are progressing well along the way." Ferndapple explained, hoping that someday when Springpaw was a warrior and got her first apprentice she would instill this into them as she did into her. Ferndapple had come to feel progress should be checked every so often just to be sure an apprentice was doing well and she felt even her former mentor would have agreed. " You will have until a little after sun-high, which is still a ways away. Trust me, time flies when you're hunting." The dark and light brown she-cat told her as she turned forward to leave. " As for watching you the whole time, I can't give you an answer Springpaw. I could be lazing in the sun not watching you at all, hanging in a tree, or right behind you when you don't even know it." The warrior answered as she disappeared into the undergrowth and soon made a wide arc around to do just that. She of course would be certain to watch her young apprentice but she hoped Springpaw would be able to ignore that this was a test and focus on her hunting. From where she stood, Ferndapple was careful to keep silent herself, crouched low to see where Springpaw decided to head first. Tags: Brightstar Notes:Sorry this took so long

Springpaw grinned wildly, bouncing excitedly on her paws. Her first assessment! How would she do? Would she make Ferndapple proud? Would she fail? Would she do well? She hadn't realized her mentor had still be talking until the last part about being right behind her. Suddenly nervous Springpaw nodded jerkily, casting her gaze around as if already looking for some small prey animal.
"Do I start now? Can I go?" She blurted out in a rush, snapping to attention as she swung her head around to face her mentor.

Ferndapple Seeing her apprentice suddenly become nervous and seem uncertain Ferndapple could figure she was letting her thoughts run faster than Moorclan cats chasing rabbits. Standing from her hiding spot the dark and light brown she-cat gave a nod, " You may start now Springpaw, and just remember take a deep breath and focus. Just remember what I've taught you and you'll do fine." Ferndapple assured her, giving her an encouraging smile to show she had confidence in the young apprentice. She had been training her for a short time but Ferndapple could see a young cat with talent just as Falconpaw and Badgerpaw did. But she soon stepped back into the undergrowth, her form disappearing among the bushes and now silently anticipating where Springpaw would go. Prey may not be plentiful still but she knew this wasn't about the amount, it was about if the apprentice was truly taking this seriously and learning. Ferndapple though had never not seen Springpaw being attentive when it came to training, ditzy as she may be she knew she could focus as well and the she-cat even contemplated showing Springpaw how she hunted in the trees.
