Ternkit

Green eyes watched eagerly as she sat just outside the den of the medicine cat...or well what used to be the medicine cat. The kit had abandoned the nursery a few moments ago when the other kits began playfighting. Instead of joining in this little kit was far too nervous about that type of behavior. She was scared that she would be the one injured. Though she loved helping in the medicine cat den, she didn’t want to be in there as a patient. Not again. Not after what happened the last time. Besides, it wasn't as if there were any cats to be able to heal her if something went wrong. She probably knew more than the majority of the cats in the whole camp.
The moment the playfighting had started, the young kit had ran to the medicine cat den. This wasn’t a rare thing. Any chance she had to visit the medicine cat she would take. Her mother always knew if Ternkit wasn’t in the nursery to look in the medicine cat den, it was a safe bet to assume she was there. Even though there was no longer a medicine cat, that didn't stop her from entering her favorite place, her safehaven.
The tail of the little kit was twitching in excitement as she thought of just exactly what she was about to do. The memories of the medicine cat den were full of good, happy thoughts. It brought back her favorite memory that occurred just before there was no longer a medicine cat...
Ternkit had wandered to the medicine cat's den again, and she was sure that her help would be appreciated, it always was. She was going to be helping out her favorite cat in the entire clan. Even if it was a small task of taking some bundles of herbs to a sick cat, she didn’t mind doing it. She heard the medicine cat calling her name, and Ternkit responded immediately going into the den and awaiting instructions. After receiving her task, the kit bounded over to the stock of herbs. And this would be an excellent task for the kit. After memorizing the herbs after the first few times of helping out the medicine cat she was easily able to distinguish them now.
Her task of the day was to look through the stock of herbs and see what needed to be collected. Still being a kit, she was not able to go out and find the herbs. But knowing what the medicine cat needed to gather and how much was helpful while the medicine cat was currently helping a cat get a thorn out of its paw. Ternkit sat down, her tail still twitching as she looked at each of the herbs carefully. Looks like almost everything had a decent amount. However there was a low stock on poppy seeds and the catmint looked low. If greencough were to break across the clan, this could be a problem.
Going over to tell the medicine cat the news, she saw the thorn in the poor patient’s paw. ”Can I help get it out?” she asked. It was a good idea, her teeth were tiny and it would be easier for her than a larger cat. With a nod of approval she inspected the paw and listened as the medicine cat instructed her on exactly what to do, and how to avoid as little pain as possible. ”Hold on!” Ternkit exclaimed realizing that she needed something. Running to the stock of herbs she grabbed some marigold and a tiny bit of cobweb…just in case. The little kit placed the marigold by the medicine cat and grinned as she was praised. She wanted to make sure the warrior would get an infection from the thorn. Putting on a little marigold and that little bit of cobweb would help protect it. Grabbing the thorn between her teeth, she pulled it quickly to ease the pain. The little kit mewled as she tumbled back from the force and placed the thorn in the corner of the den to dispose of later. She watched as the medicine cat put on the marigold, and Ternkit walked over to aid with the cobwebs. After careful placement the kit and medicine cat were thanked as the warrior made his way out of the den. A few moments later, her mother had called telling her it was time to go back.
That was the first time that Ternkit had felt useful to the clan, that she wasn't just some scared little kit who couldn't stand the fighting or anything violent. She had dreamed of becoming the apprentice to the medicine cat, but her hopes diminished the instant there was no more medicine cat. Little Ternkit stared into the den, reminiscing and trying to decide exactly how her life was going to turn out...now that she was so near apprenticeship...in fact it should be happening any day now. But all she could think about was how much she didn't want to fight or injure anyone. With a deep sigh, the black and white furred kit tucked her tail around her paws and debated on whether she wanted to go in or not. She could always get rid of any of the herbs that weren't any good...but what would that do if she couldn't go out and get more? She didn't even know where they grew, or how to find them. She just knew how to use them.

Sunmask A new scent could be caught on the wind as the sound of two cats approaching could be heard. At first several seemed to pause to look curiously, obviously smelling the scent of Moorclan along with one of their own and though there was a bit of uncertain tension it soon disappeared. Sunmask was the first to push his way into camp, looking calm and casting a glance around at his clan before flicking his tail for them to relax. Following him was the lean, lithe shape of the marbled bengal, Heathercloud. It had already been said at the Gathering a little bit ago that she would be arriving, for obvious reasons. " I'm not sure if Hawkstar is here but I expect he should be soon enough." Sunmask informed her as the she-cat nodded but obviously seemed uncertain. He realized then she likely hadn't heard where the medicine cat den was and gestured with a nod of his head to a crevasse covered by black willow roots hanging loosely from the dip. " You'll find all you need there, though don't mind the young one in front of it, Ternkit usually goes in there and use to help. Poor kit must have been devastated when we lost our medicine cats." He mewed, casting a sympathetic glance towards the black and white kit before going to see if Hawkstar was there. Heathercloud The smell of fish, mud, and reeds made Heathercloud shudder, much less the feel of the wet mud beneath her paws making her feel uncomfortable. How could cats deal with such things on a daily basis? She could never find herself living in a place like this where Lightclan felt at home in it. But she also knew better than to speak such thoughts knowing she was a guest and insulting a clan wouldn't prove well for Moorclan much less improve the situation of the cats here who already seemed panicked from their recent streak of luck. But she gave a nod of thanks to Sunmask as he indicated the medicine cat den, but curiosity was peaked when he mentioned a kit called Ternkit. Could the tern feather she saw on the wind covering the sun have been foretelling her of the young kit? Turning where she stood she eyed the young kit carefully who seemed to have settled herself outside the den rather than playing with some nearby kits. It was a long shot but maybe, just maybe Starclan was guiding her paws after all and helping her to bring hope to Lightclan. And right now they needed it after that dark prophecy, one that spoke of her clan crying for blood and darkness perhaps befalling Lightclan and Sunclan. Her fur pricked with unease every time she thought about what the loner, Rat, had said much less bothered her Starclan would speak with a cat outside it's own clans. Shaking her head the young Moorclan cat calmed herself before padding over to the den, coming to stand near Ternkit but being careful not to startle her. " Guessing you miss them as much as I do huh? Maybe more so, they were your clanmates after all." Heathercloud mewed gently, knowing she probably was still sad over the unexpected event that had plagued Lightclan. " I assume you came here a lot?" She inquired to maybe strike up a conversation with the young kit. Maybe it might even give her a further confirmation that her former friends and fellow medicine cats had given her what she needed to know who must be chosen. And I tagged you in case you wanted to have a say in anything with Hawkstar bright.

With one last deep heavy sigh, the kit finally had made up her mind. There may not be a medicine cat now, but eventually there would be. The least she could do is go through the stock of herbs and see what needed to be collected. That wouldn't solve her dilemma of having to become a warrior apprentice, but it would get her mind off it for at least a little while. Getting onto her paws, Ternkit was about to head inside when a voice stopped her in her tracks.
Looking up she was slightly frightened at first, this wasn't a LightClan cat! She didn't know this cat at all! Looking around she saw warriors all around. They weren't doing anything about it. Did this mean this cat could come and go as she pleased? Ternkit nodded at the words. "I miss them a lot. They always knew how to make me feel wanted." her soft voice finally came out as she blinked at Heathercloud.
Nodding once again, a small smile formed. "Yeah. I was their helper. I came here every day and helped sorted the herbs they had just gotten, or pulled thorns out of paws, or anything they would let me. They even taught me all the herbs!" Speaking of the medicine cat's den always put a smile on her face, and always brightened the kit up. One way to get her to open up was to bring up her favorite thing in the world..the medicine cat den. "But it doesn't matter anymore. With them gone I can't really help anymore and I have to be a regular warrior apprentice. It's not like I could have been an apprentice to the medicine cat anyway. There already was one. But it's okay, I'll just try to not think about all the fighting and battles." The mood turned somber as the thought that was still lingering on her mind surfaced.

Heathercloud Though she smelled fear at first from the young kit, no doubt because she was not of Lightclan, it seemed Ternkit became relaxed after seeing she was in no danger. In fact, she seemed to quickly begin to brighten up slightly and even showed a smile on her face. It relieved the young medicine cat to see this since she had been worried that she might startle Ternkit and there would be no way for her to make a connection with the potential medicine cat choice much less confirm her suspicions. The kit seemed gentle and a pacifist, almost reminding Heathercloud of herself to a point. But she wanted to wait, letting Ternkit answer her questions which made her smile and purr at remembering the two. " Yes, they were quite good at helping others and the medicine cat here and Hawkheart were always encouraging for us younger cats. I'm sure they appreciated the extra help too." Heathercloud agreed, recalling the apprentice who she had felt an immediate friendship with the first moment they met. She felt the apprentice and her would both have gotten their names not that far off from one another but that wasn't the case with their loss a little while back. But the fact she already knew quite a bit of herbs and had some experience with helping the medicine cats surprised the Moorclan cat. And the more the kit continued to more and more Heathercloud was becoming certain the choice was slapping her right in the face. " Ternkit, you aren't meant to walk the path of a warrior." Heathercloud declared to her in a firm and certain tone. " When Sunmask was escorting me here I had a vision from Starclan, Lightclan's two former medicine cats came before me and I followed them after a tern bird. One of it's feathers came free and floated on the wind, I know for a fact that their prophecy and what I saw was a sign: you are meant to be Lightclan's new medicine cat." She told the kit before realizing she had to tell Hawkstar! " Wait here!" The older she-cat's voice was full of excitement, feeling the gloom of the darker prophecy for the time being leaving her mind as she turned and bounded across the camp clearing as fast as any Moorclan cat and skidding to a halt near the leader's den and barely avoiding running into Sunmask. " Hawkstar! If you're there you need to come quickly this is important!" Heathercloud called. Tags:dylan , Brightstar Notes:Now things are gonna get interesting! And Bright drag your butt in here!
